Town Planning Commission is the recommending body for planning and zoning. The Town Planning Commission's role is to plan (implied by name).
A planning commission is a body of citizens that serve within Becker Township government. They act as an advisory board to the Joint Planning Board (our local governing body for planning and zoning) on issues related to planning, land use regulation and community development.
The planning commission also reviews development applications on a case-by-case basis. This includes all subdivision applications, variance applications, conditional use permit applications, and other applications as required by ordinance. They may also undertake special planning studies as needed as well as hold the public hearings required when the zoning ordinances and maps require updating.
Typically, our planning commission holds public hearings each month relating to applications, variances, etc. Public comment is welcome and encouraged at the time of public hearings. They then make recommendations based on findings to the Joint Planning Board. Public hearing notices are published in The Patriot Newspaper as well as under the Public Notice tab on this website, outside Township Hall, and Becker City Hall.
If you wish to receive an email when public notices are posted online, please subscribe to this site by sending an email to the clerk [at] beckertownship.org (clerk[at]beckertownship[dot]org).
